Recently, I’ve altered my diet in a very drastic way. I’ve stopped eating an entire food group, and have felt SO much better about what I put into my digestive system since. No I am not a vegetarian, but I would say I’m cutting it pretty close.
Ladies and gentlemen, I have become a pescatarian.
Now for all of you who have no idea what a pescatarian is (which is probably most of you), a pescatarian is someone who eats like a vegetarian but also eats seafood. Therefore, I no longer eat chicken and meat. I haven’t been a pesca for long, it’s only been two weeks since I’ve made this life altering decision, but I’m quite content with it, and except for a small incident where I nearly shoved a burger down my throat ate a burger it’s been going well. The pescatarians I know say that the first month is the hardest, and since I’m halfway through I’m not too worried about the rest.
I’m a pescatarian because:
1. I LOVE fish. In fact, it makes up 85% of what I eat most of the time. I like all kinds of fish, and I absolutely adore sushi. Therefore, it wasn’t a completely out of the question assumption to make that at some point fish would make up the majority (if not all) of my diet mercury poisoning or not.
2. I love animals too much that I can’t bear the thought of eating them anymore! Yeah I’m THAT kind of pescatarian. Plus, I’ve recently started watching Planet Earth and if there’s anything you could watch that would reaffirm your beliefs in not eating animals, this would be it.
3. While I believe that meat is good for you, I think the over consumption of it (or anything really) is harmful, and I am on my way towards being that really annoying girl that looks at everyone at the table when ordering and goes “really?”.
Let me disclaim everything I’ve stated by saying that you do not have to be a pescatarian to be healthy. In fact, the majority of health and fitness freaks that I know are all about the lean meats. This is just something that I wanted to do, and that miraculously fits perfectly into my diet. If you have any questions or want to know some GREAT recipes for veggie burgers and meat substitutes just let me know! For now, I leave you with this:
